Intricate Illustrations On Halloween

http://www.olschinsky.at/
Atelier Olschinsky is a creative studio based in Vienna. Artists Peter and Verena work together to create images that really cause one to think. They're creative masterminds in their abilities to add much details to their pieces. (ABOVE) When I first saw this image I thought of a print for a dress, pillow, etc., it just has such a unique creative vibe to it. I'm loving the pops of orange throughout the piece. The image almost looks like an apartment building flipped on its side.(BELOW 1) I think of an apple falling from a high place and smashing into a pond when I saw this image. I love the thin band of bright color in the center. (BELOW 2) This image looks like a diamond smashing into a pyramid under the sunset. What do you see? What do you think of the work of Atelier Olschinsky?

17th Century Swiss Chateau

http://www.sothebysrealty.com
Located in Switzerland, and originally built in the 17th century, this Swiss chateau has much character, and historical details. With roughly 9,000 square feet of living space and plenty of outdoor space, this home is ideal for a family. In 1996 the home was fully renovated and is listed as an Eco-friendly built home. (ABOVE) The home's backyard features beautifully manicured hedges and flowers. I love the ivy that is growing on the stone facade. Off the left side of the home is a small elevated patio, perfect for entertaining and soaking in the the views. (BELOW 1) Directly off the back of the home is a ground level patio. I am a huge fan of the gardens around the patio. It's not overly landscaped and has a great variation of flowers and greens. (BELOW 2) As you walk around the grounds you'll be pleasantly surprised to see a trellis. Under the trellis are small seating areas, perfect to rest under the green. The seating areas are private, yet one can still soak in the views and admire the well kept lawn. (BELOW 3) From the upper floors of the home one can admire the hills and mountains of Autigny, Switzerland. It's so nice to see so much undeveloped land. (BELOW 4) This close up view of the home's back, really shows the overscaled  roof. For me, the roof makes the home as gorgeous as it is. The roof is the heart of the home. The wood beans really soften the white stone facade and add much Swiss character. The home has both a mixture of Mediterranean style and country style. What do you think of the home?

Room Spotlight: Eclectic City Bedroom

http://www.elledecor.com
Fashion editor, Kim Hersov's London bedroom was featured in Elle Decor this month. Isn't is just fabulous? Though only a small portion of the bedroom is photographed there is much eye candy. A few favorite pieces of mine include the blue area rug, and standing lamp. I just love the soft blue shades of the rug. Definitely a peaceful piece to come home to from the hustle and bustle of London. The standing lamp is a very cool shape. It breaks your eyes from all the straight lines in the space. The mirrored closet doors reflect the light from the windows. I love bright spaces so the brighter the better! At the foot of the bed Hersov has a stack of books. I'm kind of curious what a fashion editor is in the mood to read these days? What are some of the books by your bedside? What do you think of Hersov's space? Do you have a favorite piece? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

A Look Inside Google

http://www.google.com
Have you ever wondered where Google lived? Well, if you ever wondered than today is your lucky day! The Google data centers are one of the most fascinating and complicated places you could ever visit. Inside the Google colored wires and pipes are our searches. (ABOVE) The Google Council Bluffs data center in Iowa is over 115,000 square feet. (BELOW 1) These Google colored pipes send and receive water to cool the facility. The G-Bike is used by Google employees to get around the data centers. (BELOW 2) The blue colored LED lights let Google employees know that things are running smoothly. LED lights are energy efficient. (BELOW 3) Behind the Google server aisle's is a fascinating new world! Here hundreds of fans circulate out hot air into a cooling unit that is then recirculated into the air. (BELOW 4) Servers like these require much space. This data center in Finland is located inside a renovated paper mill. Google choose to renovate the facility due to its solid infrastructure and proximity to the gulf for cooling waters. What do you think of the Google data centers?

Architecture Around The World: Tel Aviv

http://museumchick.com
It has been quite some time since I last published an "Architecture Around The World" post, so I'm thrilled to inspire you with one today! With over 2.5 million international visitors yearly, Tel Aviv is known as "The City That Never Sleeps". With stunning beaches, and phenomenal shopping, it's no surprise that Tel Aviv was named the third "hottest city of 2011". In addition to the city's incredible social life, the city's architecture is highly looked at. (ABOVE) The Hechal Yehuda Synagogue was built in 1980 by architect Yitzchak Toledano. The structure is built of white concrete, because of its unique design the structure was given the nickname 'Seashell Synagogue'. (BELOW 1) This structure is part of a collection of buildings referred to as "The White City". "The White City" refers to over 4,000 Bauhaus or international style buildings built from the 1930s. Bauhaus architecture was brought over from Germany. Bauhaus buildings have flat roofs, smooth facades, and cubic shapes. (BELOW 2) Bauhaus architecture is not the only architecture movement found in Tel Aviv. Bright colors and architectural details can also be found throughout the city. I love the Mediterranean energy this structure brings to the street. (BELOW 3) The Synagogue of Tel Aviv University was built by Swiss architect Mario Botta. The building's exterior is built of reddish stone from the Dolomite Mountains of Italy. What do you think of the architecture of Tel Aviv?

Bloody Brilliant: Tie Tea Mug

© le mouton noir & co

I would like to take a second to introduce a new series on (BAD) Blog About Design. "Bloody Brilliant" is all about unique finds that are making waves in the design world. I am so excited to introduce my first "Bloody Brilliant" find. The Tie Tea mug designed by le mouton noir & co is a fantastic solution to the tea tie that seems to always fall into your mug. (ABOVE) A small tooth type indent on the cup's rim allows for easy on and off access. (BELOW 1) The tooth measures 1/4"-1/2". (BELOW 2) The cup's clean white design makes it perfect for any design style. What do you think of the mug?

The Ball Is In Your Court

http://www.wardrobertsphoto.com/
"Courts" by photographer Ward Roberts is a wonderful series of images that Roberts took while traveling the globe. Roberts was inspired by both the architecture of the courts and the surrounding structures. (ABOVE) How beautiful are the industrial buildings surrounding this court? I love the ominous colors of the photograph. (BELOW 1) With views of the water, this court has a very LA type feel. I love the 'street' style wall surrounding the court. Kind of looks like waves painted on. (BELOW 2) How cool is the architecture surrounding this court? The orange fencing against the white structure really pop. (BELOW 3) What an interesting idea for court. At first glance it looks to be outside with a trellis ceiling. However if you look closely you can see the glass above the trellis and yellow windows around the court. Which court do you see yourself playing in?

Today's Must Have: Oct 18, 2012

How gorgeous is this Kenzo Bag? A wool messenger is definitely not something you see everyday. The "ridge" design on the front and back of the bag gives it a strong look. What I really love about this bag is not only the wool, but also the blend of leather. This bag would look great if worn with a pair of jeans. It has that sporty look that goes well with a pair of boots. What do you think of the bag?

Room Spotlight: Retro Pretty Pink

© Rizzoli
I am head over heels in love with this Kelly Wearstler bathroom published in her upcoming book "Rhapsody". When I see space like this my juices start tingling and I know I'm in the right line of work! The contrasts of black, white, and pink make the space feel light and free, but also grounded. Kelly opted to use a standing mirror rather than a wall mirror as not to cover the wonderful stone pattern. The draws of the vanity feature crystal knobs for a little sparkle and shine. Do you see yourself owning this bathroom? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.
