Design Video: This Is Shanghai

The city of Shanghai is an Eastern wonder. With over 4,000 skyscrapers that began being built after the 1980s, the city has twice as many skyscrapers than New York! Robert Whitworth decided to explore this urban wonder in "This is Shanghai". According to Whitworth, "This is Shanghai" is: an exploration of the diversities and eccentricities of the metropolis that is Shanghai going beyond the famous skyline. The way in which Whitworth edited the video is pure magic. The editing is seamless and makes you fly through the city. If you enjoy this video, then I suggest checking out other Whitworth videos here. What do you think?

Moroccan Eclectic Home

http://www.vogue.com
Rogier Vivier designer, Bruno Frisoni's, Tangier home was featured in Vogue. When I saw these photographs I was inspired! The way in which Frisoni was able to bring to light the beauty of Moroccan design, but also add a bit of contrast with 70s vintage furniture. One of the biggest highlights of the home are the stone floors. (ABOVE) I'm in love with the table in the entry way. The table looks like Cathedral ceiling vaults. Those hard lines are reflected onto the ceiling in an awesome pendant fixture. The drapes soften the stone archways. (BELOW 1) The fireplace is the focal piece in this sitting area. I love the modernity of the fireplace. The wood furniture pieces bring some warmth into the space. (BELOW 2) The light fixture and vase are incredible! The vase has a futuristic vibe to it. (BELOW 3) How gorgeous is this bathroom? I love the archway around the tub. The tub is also very unique, instead of being above ground, it's built below. Even the door is sweet, love the paint affect. (BELOW 4) This space is all about color! Love how color makes one feel. (BELOW 5) Here the furniture has a bit of an Asian vibe. I like how the pieces work together. What do you think of the home? If you want to see more photos, click on the this link to Vogue's website. You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Today's Must Have: June 25, 2013

I absolutely love this Wang shoulder bag. The mix in materials and fabrics is absolutely fabulous. The best part about the bag? It's thirty percent off, woohoo! The bag has a very sophisticated look, so I see it paired with a more serious, structured look. You could pair the bag with a skinny black jean, and pointed pump with a printed top. Or keep things real simple with a classic slim fit dress. This piece is one that won't go out of style.

Weekly Start Off: No 21

http://pinterest.com/blogaboutdesign/style/
Happy Monday, June 24, 2013, readers! I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend. I was able to take some to time this weekend to head down to the Flower District of New York. Walking down the streets and seeing long stretches of shrubs, trees, and flowers is the coolest thing in a city. I'm sort of going crazy over Hydrangeas at the moment. Having them in my home makes me think of the beach, the Hampton's! I need another beach trip (hehe)! Menswear has been gracing the covers of many publications as well as the streets recently. There's something about a well cut pair of pants, and a solid shoe, that looks hot. This men's inspired look has just the right balance of masculine and feminine.

1. I found these J.Crew pants that have a similar look to the ones above. A classic fit pant is an essential ladies! If you're going for that full out Menswear inspired look than pair the pants with this equipment shirt. It's soft and delicate, yet still has that structure.

2. Going to the top of a building in New York and looking out is one of the most relaxing things for me. I love this post by Katie Hosmer in which she photographs people looking out at New York. When you look out over New York, you find yourself dreaming, and reflecting.

3. SSense.com has possibly the best sales for designer clothing, and accessories. I'd definitely take a peak at some of the amazing things they have. I love these Surface to Air silk shorts, and the best part is they're 70% off!

Get A Grip

http://omarortiz.wordpress.com/
Artist Omar Ortiz's hyperrealistic paintings are absolutely incredible. The use of color, details, and shading brings these paintings to life. "Leap of Faith" is Ortiz's newest series. In this series, Ortiz brings to attention the beauty and dimension of the human arms and hands. (ABOVE) I can't believe the detail of this piece. At first I thought I was looking at a photograph, incredible! (BELOW 1) On the hand you can see the veins, the knuckles, and hairs. The index finger is so well painted. (BELOW 2 & 3) The finger nail's are incredible. (BELOW 4) Ortiz at work. What's even more impressive is that Ortiz doesn't paint these on a tablet. He actually uses paints, and a brush! To be able to paint with such precision by hand on a canvas takes much concentration and skill. What do you think of Ortiz's work?

Architecture Around The World: Dublin

http://hddwallpaper.com
I'm so excited about today's "Architecture Around The World" post. It's been a while since I've last posted one of these, and Dublin is the perfect place to get us back and running! The city's architecture is this wonderful combination of old and new. The most popular architectural style in the city is Georgian architecture. During the 18th century, much of the city was being designed in this style, which shares many similarities to the style of Palladio. (ABOVE) What I love about this photograph is the medieval architectural influence to the right and the more contemporary architectural influence to the left. Just like in downtown New York City (holla at ya city) each building has its own unique look. (BELOW 1) The Samuel Beckett Bridge was designed in 2007 by architect Santiago Calatrava. The structure's design is meant to look like a harp laying on its edge, the harp is a secular item icon for Ireland. The bridge crosses the River Liffey and is named after an Irish writer. (BELOW 2) The Georgian House Museum is the perfect building to get a good sense of the architectural style. I absolutely love the door way. That blue door is such a statement. (BELOW 3) If you've been to Europe before, you know that the streets are very narrow. In the distance is an old church. Again, you can see the combination of new and old. (BELOW 4) Trinity College was established in 1522. The school was design by architect Thomas Burgh. You can really see the Georgian architecture here. (BELOW 5) An aerial view of the city. Have you been to Dublin? How beautiful is River Liffey?

Room Spotlight: Floor Glamour

http://bellevivir.blogspot.com
I absolutely love this Living area featured in Architectural Digest Spain. The classic, historic architecture of the room is sharply different from the mod interior design. The floors are the statement of the room. The unique design, and pattern work well with both the interior design and the architecture. I love the balloon arm chair. It's a great piece of furniture to curl up in and read and book. Under the bookshelves at the back, is a unique chair. The chair seems to be heavily influenced by Native American design. I love how this chair looks and works in the space. The center medallion looks like a drum! I love the Moroccan table. The space has such a variety in design styles. All the styles add another layer to the space. What do you think of the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Today's Must Have: June 17, 2013

I absolutely love these Olympia Brogues. Since the Great Gatsby came to theaters, all I've heard people talking about is how much they love the glamour and sophistication of the roaring 20s. When I was looking through pumps on ssense.com, I fell in love with these very 20s inspired platform heels. I like that they play homage to a great time in fashion, music, and art, but also have a modern twist. The red trim platform bottom, mesh sides, and star lace tip, give the shoe flair. These shoes can be worn with a great pair of jeans, and a top

The Comic Women

http://www.sandrachevrier.com/
Let's just say, listening to #Thatpower and looking at this phenomenal series by Sandra Chevrier was an awesome idea! The music and art took me to a different world for a few minutes. A world of bad ass superhero comic women. Chevrier's mixed media illustrations capture women with superhero strength in brilliant color and stroke use. (ABOVE) In this piece you look at her forehead and see what she's thinking, where she's going. I love the collar of comic strips, and the blotchy paint stroke hair. (BELOW 1) Hello eyes! I love this piece, her mouth is silenced and you're immediately drawn in by her beautiful eyes. It looks like she's reacting to the weapon at the bottom right. (BELOW 2) In this piece, the woman looks like she's dreaming of comics. I love the neck, it has a watercolor quality to it. (BELOW 3) I sort of see this woman foretelling the future! At the bottom right there's a caption that states, it's too late. They should have listened to her earlier! (BELOW 4) Here the woman looks like her eyes are being bandaged. Maybe the villains finally got? I hope not! (BELOW 5) The Super Man lips are a hot look. Who needs big lips? I'd rather have big "S" lips! What do you think?

Fashion Meets Design: Snakeskin

I'm really excited about today's "Fashion Meets Design" post. The street style look and foyer inspired both the fashion and design picks. The street style look is very casual, yet glamorous. A loose maxi dress, a pair of wedges, a pop of color in the clutch. I wanted the fashion picks to have a similar feel. The foyer, is very elegant, defined lines and shapes in the furnishings. I wanted the design picks to reflect that. The fashion picks have a little more structure, because I took into account the structure of the space. What do you think?

The street style look and the band room inspired both the fashion and design picks. Unlike the first street style look and space, this look is more rock inspired. The street style look has a hard glamour to it. I love the mix in prints between the outfit and clutch, and I tried to reflect that in the fashion picks. The band room also plays with prints. A row of snakeskin printed chairs, and a Persian rug. The design picks reflect this mix. What do you think?
