Modern Mountain Cabin

© Marc Lins
Designed by Marte.Marte Architekten, this modern mountain cabin tucked away in the mountains of Austria blends into its beautiful surroundings. (ABOVE) The wood cabin to the left and the modern cabin to the right are two completely different takes on the mountain home. Though I love the simplicity of a wood cabin, the modern cabin is something different. (BELOW 1) The cabin is very sculptural. The cabin is simple and not meant to be detailed. I love the wrap around balcony. Standing from the balcony, one can take in the fantastic views. (BELOW 2) The balcony is very streamlined. To be honest, the balcony has a very cold look, like the mountains. The balcony looks like an extension to the surroundings. (BELOW 3) The home blends into its surroundings. The way the materials are applied to the facade, looks like snow. What do you think of the cabin?

Today's Must Have: July 30, 2013

I absolutely love this crossbody bag. It has a very modern, streamlined design. One of my favorite things about the bag is the color. It's a very unique shade of blue, something different from what I have seen before. The bag is perfect for the office. It's the perfect piece to store a tablet, laptop, or other electronic. I like that it's not the typical looking office bag. It will set you apart from your coworkers in style. I see this bag worn with a simple white blouse, and a pair of tailored pants. The bag has a very structured look, so it's best to stay away from flirty dresses, and maxi dresses. The look should be grounded like the bag.

Weekly Start Off: No 22

http://pinterest.com
Happy Monday, July 29, 2013, readers! I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend. One of my goals in life was to learn how to skateboard. There's something about feeling the wind against your face, speeding down a hill that gives me a rush. Having a short commute to work, I'd rather grab a skateboard and go rather than walk, or ride a bike. So these last few weeks, I've spent my time learning how to skateboard. I picked up a cruiser board, as I wanted something that was small and easy to store. When I was cruising (hehe) around the web, I was inspired by edgier looks. Skateboard girl meets cool biker gone chic. I love coming up with fashion titles! Btw, I totally suggest picking up a cruiser board and learning. It's wicked.

1. I bought this cruiser skateboard. I love the bright orange, and purple wheels contrast. Once you get your skateboard, check out this clip, to get you started. Check out this clip, for a little skateboarding inspiration.

2. If your in the mood for a little skateboard girl meets cool biker gone chic look, than I have a few links for you! Check out this Kelly Wearstler jacket. Its got that biker chic thing going for it. I love this Equipment blouse. It's very architectural and would look great with a pair of Rag and Bone cut off denim shorts.

3. Books are treasures to me. Recently, I've been on a bit of a book high. I'm so inspired by design, and architecture books, and love books published by Rizzoli and Phaidon. However, I just came across Victionary and have fallen in love with their unique selection of books.

"Where the wild things are" printed boldly on the back of this awesome jacket. I love the edgier, rock star vibe of this jacket. It's a solid piece for the fall. Pair the jacket with a printed bag. The printed bag picks up the colors found on the lion.

This look has that biker thing going for it. From what I can tell, Taylor is actually wearing a leather romper. I like having a backpack rather than a bag. If your going to be a biker, than you need something that your can just wear on your back and go!

As you can tell by the look of my blog, I love blue. I'm digging the blue detail on the back of this coat. It's such a modern, simple piece. The modern lines continue onto the oversized clutch.

The jacket is a modern update to a classic tweed jacket. I love the fun, casual feel of the jacket. It looks good without taking its self seriously. Pairing it with the Beatles wearing clown noses is sick!

Design Video: Mirror City

Film maker Michael Shainblum created this epic kaleidoscopic time lapse of different cities in the US. The video starts with simple architecture and visuals, and builds as it continues into a visually stimulating experience. There really are no words to describe how incredible it is what Shainblum created. It took him several months to complete. I suggest watching it in HD. What do you think?

Wear That Space: Marx Living Room

http://theglitterguide.com
Owned by Etsy shop owner Jessica Marx, this phenomenal space has a very casual, music centered feel. The guitars add not only a rich, warm texture into the space, but also add a very personal touch. The space is a wonderful harmony between brass, black, whites, browns, and creams. By painting the walls white, the furnishings really stand out. My favorite area of the space is the seating area under the window. The pillows and fluffy cushion, look super comfortable to sit on. For the fashion picks, I was inspired by the colors found throughout the space. The soft pink is found in the tops, the center top was inspired by the floral ottoman. The jewelry was inspired by the brass pendant, sofa legs, and coffee table legs. The clog sandals add a warmth to the last look. Just like the guitars add a warmth into the space. What do you think of the space? Which fashion picks are your favorite?

The Camouflaged Building

http://www.holzerkobler.ch/
Architecture firm Holzer Kobler, designed this building to be camouflaged into its surroundings. Located in Germany, this museum houses a Palaon research and experience center. (ABOVE) The building is designed to be one with the sky and the earth. The clouds reflect on the mirrored windows. (BELOW 1) The building has many hard angles. The center houses 300,000 year old Schoningen spears, which are the oldest preserved hunting spears in the world. The architecture of the building resembles a spear. (BELOW 2) From a distance, you almost don't notice the building. Holzer Kobler did a fantastic job meeting their goals to blend the building into it's surroundings. The firm achieved this in a modern way. (BELOW 3) I love how the windows blend into the building. What do you think of the structure?

Today's Must Have: July 22, 2013

I absolutely love these leather brogues. A few weeks back I did a post on men's inspired clothing for women. These shoes are the perfect example. What I like about this style is that it's more minimalist and simple, less jewelry and colors. The shoes are elegant, and the right fit for a work event. I see them being paired with a pair of black skinny pants, and Equipment blouse. The Equipment blouse is the perfect example of feminine meets menswear. What do you think of the brogues?

New York City Placed In The Grand Canyon

http://guspetro.com/merge/
Swiss based artist, Gus Petro's three part photography series titled "Empty", "Dense", and "Merge" explores two completely different areas, then brings them together. The series is an incredible example of imagination, and beauty. In 2012, Petro travelled to the USA and took photographs of the Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon is peaceful, and a natural creation. After exploring the Grand Canyon Petro flew to NYC. NYC on the other hand is manmade, urban, and anything but empty. In "Merge", Petro takes the big apple and sets it in one of the most magnificent places on Earth. The result is shear genius. (ABOVE) The dense, and highly populated NYC sits in the Grand Canyon. (BELOW 1) Overlooking the skyline. Without the tree to the left the landscape has a very space like feel. (BELOW 2) The city is so small compared to the beauty of the Grand Canyon. (BELOW 3) Man on a horse looking at NYC? That path is quite narrow. (BELOW 4) By far my favorite photograph in the series. An empty NYC surrounded by such magnificent mountains. What do you think of the series?

Space's I'm Loving: Part XVII

http://www.elledecor.com
Why I Love This Space: I love this space's open layout, modern design, and unique furnishings

I'd have to say this is one of the most beautiful beach house kitchens I've seen. What I like about this kitchen is the open layout. A beach home should feel open, and allow for unobstructed views of the outdoors. The kitchen features several different seating arrangements for added functionality. I spend most of my time entertaining in the kitchen, so this design would be the right fit for me. The modern furniture keeps things looking clean. I live the mix in woods, and stones. The two hand bar stools are the focal point of the bar. I'm not the biggest fan of the lighting, it needs more of a pop. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's mix in furnishings

This space is the definition of eclectic design. The space features pieces from all different periods. When you have a space that has so many different styles the walls should be painted white. You don't want the space to feel too busy or the design to conflict. One piece that I'm not a fan of is the square pedestal to the left. As the bottom of the pedestal the paint is beginning to peel off. It detracts from the space, and makes it appear dirty. I also would have liked to have seen the brown armchair to the left being reupholstered and painted at the bottom. Do you like the space? What would you change or improve? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's bedding and area rug, and the idea of painting the space one color

Aside from the headboard, the bedding is the focal point of the space. It's bright, features a strong graphic pattern, and ties the different colors found in the space together. What I like about the bedding is that it brings a Moroccan flair into the space. The area rug is wonderful. I love all the different shapes, and prints. Painting a space one color sets a base for space's that want color, but also want to feature bolder pieces. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's modern design, area rug, and darker floors

Not having upper cabinets is something that is becoming more and more popular in contemporary homes. By not having upper cabinets, one eliminates clutter, and the space opens up. The area rug brings some much need color and texture into the space and softens the modern look of the kitchen. Because the walls and most of the pieces are white, a darker floor really makes a statement. It also makes the cabinetry stand out. If the floors were stained a lighter color, the white cabinets would not be such a focus. Do you see yourself cooking here? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Moving In: Italian Art Nouveau Villa

http://www.sothebysrealty.com
For this week's "Moving In" post I've decided to move in to this brilliant Italian Art Nouveau Villa, located in Brescia, Italy. The six bedroom, seven bathroom home is just the right amount of house! I imagine keeping the interiors more modern, clean, and simple, with a vintage flair and subtle pops of color. (ABOVE) When you pass the gate and drive up the long driveway you're greeted by classic Italian sculptures. Being that we're actually in Italy, I don't mind the classic sculptures. (BELOW 1) The home has a very classic architectural design. I like how the roof overhangs, as well as the unique details at the top, just below the roof. (BELOW 2) The stain glass windows surrounding the entry bring some character to the home. They make the right statement. I'm curious as to what the inscription above the windows states. Can anyone read it? (BELOW 3) To the right of the home is this patio. I like how the greens are growing above. What a great place to entertain, right by the pool. The space could use a little more furnishings. Maybe a sitting area? (BELOW 4) The property has many green areas. The property is well landscaped and features a pool! I'm sold. Would you move in?
