The Pen Carpets

http://www.joeandnathan.com
I'm literally in shock! This phenomenal series drawn by design based studio Joe and Nathan is incredible. The drawings are obviously meant to look like realistic carpets. The detail in each piece is beyond amazing, and to think that this whole series was drawn using ballpoint Bic pens is unbelievable. (ABOVE) This photograph shows both the beauty and detail of one of Joe and Nathan's pen drawings as well as the time and precision needed to complete one of these pieces.

(1) This is a completed piece. Even after staring at this photograph for a period of time I still can't tell the difference between the drawing and an actual carpet. I could see this carpet as something I'd place in my home.

(2) A view of the carpet up close. Joe and Nathan did an incredible job portraying different textures in the way in which they drew these carpets. They don't feel one-dimensional.

(3) A view of the different drawing lines. I love this photograph. It's sort of like a before and after.

(4) There are so many components that go into these pieces. I'm curious as to what the process is to create one of these pieces.

(5) In addition to the black carpets, Joe and Nathan have also designed this blue carpet. The carpet looks like the ceiling of a cathedral. The center flower is fantastic.

(6) A closer look of the center flower. I like the blue carpets, they have a nice variation in blues.

(7) Isn't it incredible to think that those pens drew this carpet? What do you think of Joe and Nathan's work? Do you you like the blue or black carpets better? Share in the comments!

Space's I'm Loving: Part XXII

http://cdna.tid.al
Why I Love This Space: I love this space's beautiful stone work and clawfoot tub as well as light fixture

This bathroom is the perfect mix of elegant and modern. The space is all about the stone work. Because the stone is so intricate and detailed, the designer of this space, Rafael De Cardenas decided to leave everything else in the space simple and minimal. No bedazzled light fixture, paintings, cabinets, etc., just the bare necessities. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's furniture and accessories, as well as its fabulous location

Let me be honest--I'm not a huge fan of the space as a whole, but I'm incredibly in love with individual pieces in the space. From the symmetrical case pieces on either side of the windows, to the brilliant shell arm chairs to the wonderful modern artwork, many of the pieces in this space make big statements. From looking at the windows of this apartment, I'm guessing we're in New York overlooking Central Park. Can I please move in? Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follows rules, jut do.
Why I Love This Space: I love this vignette's unique pieces, as well as texturized fireplace mantel

I love a vignette. This vignette is too perfect. There is a nice mix of styles in this vignette. The fireplace is early 20th century, while the accessories have a bit more modernity to them. The brass ram is eclectic and makes a big statement is this vignette, it gives much needed height to the right side of the vignette. Without the brass ram, the vignette would be far more somber. Each piece in this vignette has a purpose and with out it the composition would not work. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's overall design, art work, furnishings, and accessories

The overall design of this space is awesome. There is a fantastic balance between the furnishings, and the accessories in this space. Each piece complements the other. My favorite pieces in the space are the rug, arm chair in front of the desk, and desk itself. The rug adds a touch of femininity and a bit of an Eastern flare. The arm chair adds a shine to brings some interest into the space. The desk brings some rich color and elegance into the space. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Moving In: Villa Labarba

http://www.sothebysrealty.com
How amazing is this California mansion? Well, I think it's just fab! This over 12,000 sq ft house that sits on over an acre of ocean front property is an incredible place to live. The home was built in 1997, and has many classic California design embellishments, yet still feels fresh and clean. (ABOVE) The center motorcourt is a classic feature. Love the clean, front facade as well as the boxwoods that surround the house. Every classically designed home needs a fountain. I love that the fountain is surrounded by some pink flowers.

(1) The views are the highlight of the property. Waking up and walking around such beautifully landscaped grounds would be truly amazing. I like how the water from the upper level fountain spills over into a collection of smaller fountains running toward the ocean.

(2) The back of the home is as beautiful as the front of the home. I love the hedges, and center fountain. The back of the home screams traditional, with a touch of modernity. The terrace just off the main house is the perfect place to entertain. Beautiful architecture and views of the ocean surround you!

(3) A long slide carries water from the upper level fountain to the lower level fountain. This idea is a more environmentally friendly alternative, which is always a good thing! I could see myself laying on one of those blue outdoor sofas and looking out at the ocean and sandy beaches.

(4) The property features a garden space. I recently started learning some tricks when it comes to planting and gardening. I love having a garden in the back of my home and would die for this large one that overlooks the water. What do you think of the home? Would you move in?

Today's Must Have: Sept 19, 2013

I absolutely love this Kenzo tote. Kenzo is the big Kahuna in the fashion world at the moment. The company is coming out with super unique and interesting products that mix a variety of periods and ideas. This eye tote is such a unique piece. One of my favorite products that Kenzo produces is the eye sweater, I love that the eye was translated onto a bag. The bag is the perfect piece to be worn with a pair of black jeans or skirt and T-shirt. I would not pair the tote with a dress. What do you think of the tote?

Hotel Design: The Haymarket Hotel

http://www.easytobook.com
I haven't published a "Hotel Design" post for quite some time now, so I figured that London Fashion Week would be the perfect time! The beautiful Haymarket Hotel located in the heart of London's Theater district has the perfect mix of English and international style. In addition, the hotel is close to restaurants and bars as well as national landmarks such as Trafalgar square and the National Gallery. (ABOVE) I love the mix of elegance and simplicity of the hotel's design. The building feels like a classic English hotel.

(1) The lobby welcomes you in, in this fantastic bright yellow. I love the simplicity of the furnishings. The room does not feel cluttered or overly designed, yet it still feels warm and cozy.

(2) The main restaurant is designed to be funky and cool. Bright colors, patterns and shapes fill the space.

(3) I like how the guests suites are done in different patterns. The space works well together, but is not matchy-matchy. I love the purple. It's soft and adds a touch of femininity. The armchair looks like a great spot to relax and read a book.

(4) The indoor pool is one of the many highlights at the hotel. The pool is the ideal place to swim laps or to enjoy some drinks with friends at the adjacent bar. I love the colored light installations. What do you think of the hotel? Have you stayed here before?
